New Introduction-to-Sociology Book Is Concise, Affordable

"Compelling" ... "interesting, readable" ... "succinctly written ... student friendly"

"Madeleine Cousineau gives us a model textbook, written in a direct and lively way, and at the same time conveying a compelling sense of the illumination of our world that can be yielded by a sociological perspective." –Frances Fox Piven, distinguished professor of sociology and political science, CUNY Graduate Center, and past president of the American Sociological Association

"This new text is a refreshing introduction to sociology for undergraduate students. The integration of sociological theories with numerous contemporary examples makes it much more accessible than the traditional concentration of theories in the first chapter, which can be very intimidating. Far from overwhelming students, this text eases them into the discipline with little jargon, some humor, and up-to-date scholarship. Most importantly, this text is interesting, readable, and touches on the lived realities of our students." –Susan Farrell, professor of sociology, Kingsborough Community College, and past chair of the Teaching and Learning Section of the American Sociological Association

"Professor Cousineau’s succinctly written text is student friendly and extremely compelling without being watered-down or superficial. She has produced a genuinely 'whole new' introduction to the exciting world of sociology." –Jack Levin, Brudnick Professor of Sociology and Criminology, Northeastern University
